Qualities
Definition
Values are defined as principles and qualities that reflect what a person or organization considers important and is authentically aligned with. In psychology, they are often seen as “good characteristics” of an individual or a group, but this captures only part of their meaning.
Qualities are the underlying attributes and expressions of values. They describe how values show up in behavior, decision-making, and interaction. While values define what matters, qualities reveal how that importance is lived and expressed.
In a business context, qualities shape culture, working style, and the overall character of an organization. They can be observed in how teams communicate, make decisions, handle pressure, and deliver results.
Significance
When I work with people or organizations, I do not only look at what they do. I look at their qualities. Not as a checklist of traits, but as a coherent set of expressions that feel inherently “theirs.”
This applies just as much to companies as it does to individuals. Some organizations are fast, dynamic, and responsive. Others are precise, structured, and quality-driven. These are not just characteristics. They are manifestations of deeper values, consistently expressed over time.
To me, this goes even deeper. It is about energy. You can walk into a company and feel it immediately. Some environments are buzzing with activity, movement, and intensity. Others are calm, focused, and deliberate. This is not something written in a strategy document. It is lived.
When I talk about qualities, I do not only mean what a company is good at. I mean what it embodies. The underlying tone that shapes how things happen, not just what happens. This is why qualities matter. They define experience, internally and externally. And when they are clear and aligned, everything becomes more coherent.
