Language
Definition
Language is our primary means of communication, though in personal interaction, it accounts for only about 7% of what is perceived. Tone of voice, body language, and attitude carry most of the message. We use language as a system of words, symbols, and structures to form, shape, express, and transmit meaning. It is both a tool for communication and a framework for thinking.
In a business context, language serves both internal and external communication, but also defines how ideas are articulated and handled. We use language daily without paying much attention to how it influences clarity, alignment, and coherence. This becomes evident in multilingual environments, where we translate not just words but also cultural concepts and perceptions.
Language is meaning made visible.
Significance
Language is not just a tool. It shapes reality.
Words are powerful. They shape our neural pathways. The words we use in our minds determine how we allocate attention, what we notice, and how we interpret the world. The words we speak and write determine how the world sees us.
In business, precise language is important on many levels, but in my work, it translates abstract ideas like values, vision, or strategy into something tangible. If the language is unclear, everything that follows becomes unclear.
This is why I take language so seriously. It has been a central part of my life from the beginning. I started writing outside of school in early childhood, and it became my primary form of creativity. Over time, this expanded into fiction, non-fiction, some poetry, extensive web content, professional copywriting and translations, editing, as well as the creation of methodologies, systems, and structured frameworks. Writing is not something I do occasionally. It is how I shape my thinking.
Language is also deeply connected to identity. I am multilingual, and each language carries a different perspective. In Czech we say that however many languages you speak, that many times you are a human. There is truth in that. I experience a different mode of thinking in English than in Czech. I write all my original work in English and only then translate it into my native language. That choice shapes how my ideas are formed.
My relationship with languages has been anything but linear. I absorbed Slovak naturally as a child. I studied Russian and German for years and retained very little. I learned English independently and eventually became a professional translator of complex scientific, technical, and legal texts. Out of curiosity, I explored Sanskrit and its Devanagari script, which revealed a completely different relationship between sound and writing. I am currently learning Italian, a long-standing personal passion.
I love working in multilingual teams and with clients abroad, because each interaction broadens my perspective. Language is not neutral. It carries structure, emotion, and worldview. It shapes how we express ideas and how those ideas land. Hence, this Vocabulary as an integral part of my website.
In my work, language is the bridge between insight and action.
If we name things precisely, we can work with them effectively.
