Attraction
Definition
Attraction in a business context is the process by which individuals, teams, and organizations draw in clients, partners, and collaborators who resonate with their values, positioning, and way of working. It is not accidental. Attraction emerges from clarity. When a company articulates its authentic qualities and strategic focus, it naturally filters its audience. Clear identity attracts alignment and repels mismatch, reducing friction and strengthening long-term collaboration.
Significance
The so-called law of attraction seems to work in more than one direction. We often attract people who are like us — and sometimes we attract our opposites. We feel comfortable with the like-minded and compensate through those who are different. Why one or the other dynamic wins remains a bit of a mystery to me.
In startups and young companies, leaders frequently attract like-minded team members and partners. This fuels enthusiasm and momentum, but it can also create blind spots. If a visionary freethinker surrounds themselves only with other freethinkers, no one may notice the absence of structure and discipline, until it’s too late. Surround yourself not only with people you enjoy, but with those who challenge your thinking and balance your blind spots.
